Gynecologic Oncology and Minimally Invasive Care Approach
Gynecologic oncology deals with cancers affecting the female reproductive organs. Treatment may involve surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination of approaches depending on the cancer type, stage, pathology, and individual health factors.
Dr. Mangeshikar’s work has a particular emphasis on minimally invasive gynecological surgery. Laparoscopic and robotic techniques may be used for selected benign and malignant conditions when clinically appropriate.
His experience with complex endometriosis is also relevant because severe disease can involve the bowel, bladder, pelvic nerves, diaphragm, or other structures. These cases may require detailed imaging and coordination with surgeons from other specialties.
For suspected or confirmed cancer, treatment planning should be multidisciplinary and based on pathology and staging rather than symptoms alone.
Education and Credentials
Dr. Abhishek Mangeshikar completed his MBBS at D. Y. Patil University and later completed his MS in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, receiving a gold medal in his postgraduate examination.
He subsequently completed fellowship training in minimally invasive gynecological surgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. His training included conventional laparoscopy, robotic surgery, single-port surgery, and advanced gynecologic endoscopy.
He has also received an International Gynecologic Cancer Society travelling scholarship for research involving minimally invasive approaches to gynecological cancer.
