Osteoarthritis occurs when tissues within a joint gradually change and break down, commonly affecting the knees and hips. NIAMS notes that symptoms can include pain, stiffness, swelling, and reduced movement.
Hip replacement may be considered when significant joint disease causes persistent pain and loss of function despite appropriate non-surgical treatment. The procedure replaces damaged portions of the hip with artificial components.
Hip and Knee Care Approach
